About me

Computer Science (Infrastructure) student & SAP STAR Programme Intern

I am a Final Year Computer Science (Infrastructure) student at TU Dublin, and a STAR Programme Intern at SAP. I am currently interning at SAP as a software developer on the SAP Analytics Cloud team.

I am actively looking for an Entry-Level/Graduate position in Software Development/Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure or similar fields.

I have a passion for creative problem solving and working on fun but useful projects involving software and hardware. I enjoy expressing myself through technology and some of my projects reflect this.

One recent project that I am proud of is my Train Timetable Screen. My goal was to recreate the info screens found in train stations across the country, and take a piece of iconic Irish infrastructure into my home. As someone who takes the train daily, these displays play a big but silent part in my life. I now have recreated it using an LED Matrix screen and an ESP-32, so I have realtime train info on display in a creative way in my home.

I also have experience as a freelance web developer, creating and hosting a number of sites. evefitz.art is an artist portfolio website, which gives the artist the ability to upload, categorise and manage their pieces and display them for all to see. Similarly, shotsbywhatsername is a photography portfolio made for @ShotsByWhatsername. I also have an online store, halfdecent.ie, that I developed for Eve Fitzsimons and myself for our clothing brand — it handles orders, stock updates and tracking. Jakub Barabasz and I have jointly developed ontrack.eoghanmcgough.com, which allows for real-time train and Luas timetable viewing, as well as locating stations near you.

A lot of my projects relate to my personal interests. I have an interest in public transit which is very evident by my LED Train Time screen, On-Track Luas and train time site, Bussle bus route guessing game, and halfdecent.ie's transit related products. Trains, buses and trams are a part of everyday life for me and millions of others, and I feel that they are an underappreciated necessity. I believe people should focus more on the journey, not just the destination, and my projects reflect this mindset.

I also have a passion for photography, and as such a few of my projects involve image processing, which I am studying as part of my final year in college. For example, my External Visual Experience (E.V.E) is an interactive art installation in NCAD that allows passers-by to see themselves in a new light — whether represented through ASCII characters or wireframes — giving people a moment to stop and have fun on their way.

My time at SAP in the STAR Programme taught me lots of valuable skills that help both in the workplace and in my personal projects. I learned the value of testing and ensuring quality in everything I do. Through seminars and certificates I have gained invaluable AI experience, and as SAP migrates to an AI-first company I think I joined at the right time to fully benefit from this transition as AI-upskilling was a priority.

All of my projects can be found on this site and on my GitHub.
